about

“After it all went down, I set out on my way in search of other survivors. Keeping close to the coast, I travelled across beaches, fields and empty highways. Carrying a small battery operated multitrack sound recorder with me, I looted batteries, memory cards and musical instruments from empty shops in empty little towns and, along the way, recorded this album. The reading material for my road journey was William Morris’s News from Nowhere, a short novel in which the author wakes up in a future post-capitalist utopia. Morris’s book touched on questions of philosophy, social politics, aesthetics, ethics, economics, psychology and everything in between. If one were thinking about rebuilding a society it would be an ideal opening read to set everything into context. The music I made out on the road was a concept album based on scenes from that book.”

"Once again Neil has delivered an inspired album and one that bodes well for parts two and three later this year." - Bob Mulvey, The Progressive Aspect

"The Outsider leaves the everyday world in search of a new beginning; a life free from the drudgery of mundane existence to a transcendental happiness, echoing themes in Morris’ book. What we get are musical impressions of the journey through a world that no longer exists in today’s urbanised society but one that can be explored in the individual’s heart and mind." - Joe Coventry, Nerve Magazine

"Lovely and engaging, very orchestral progressive music featuring Neil's classical and acoustic guitars with a full band sound. [Neil has] outdone himself this time. Highly recommended to fans of Flairck, Mike Oldfield, Aparecidos, etc." - Steve Feigenbaum, Wayside Music

“This is some of the finest acoustic guitar I have heard in an awfully long time. His creativity and imagination comes through in every note, chord and arpeggio played. ****” - Jon Neudorf, Sea of Tranquility

"This is a very special effort that is worth a lifetime of multiple listens" - Gary Flanagan, Nightwaves
